This section will go over the trends that are being seen in Education and what is being taught in classrooms.

Speaking the same language as educators and caregivers can help expand on what kids are learning in the classroom and provide a means of communicating the types of skills and brain growth children are learning/experiencing when they come to early childhood programming at your library. This ultimately helps you to tell the story of your program to stakeholders, coworkers and patrons.

As we delve into the communication used in the classroom by educators to caregivers who bring young patrons to the library you will hear multiple theories about this work. One that is gaining traction in Montana classrooms is called The Science of Reading.

The Science of Reading. What it is What it is not.

This approach focuses heavily on phonemic awareness, the number of words a child can add to their vocabulary, and definitions of these words.

This video gives an example of Phonemic Awareness education in action in a one- on-one environment.
